A Note on Professional Protocol

We've received a gentle reminder from the librarians and curators at the Library of Congress. This is not aimed at any particular student, but rather Corcoran students as a collective group.

When communicating in a professional context, such as sending an email message or meeting face-to-face, you need to remember a few basic things:

Identify yourself (the staff likely doesn't know you)
Use formal address and language (ie. no slang or abbreviations)
Identify your research project not just by topic, but by argument
Demonstrate basic bibliographical awareness of your chosen topic
If sending an email message, proofread it assiduously

If you have questions about any of this, don't hesitate to ask. Thanks.
