Black Friday at the LC

In the days before personal computers, when researchers had to actually go to physical archives and libraries, one of the busiest days of the year at the Library of Congress was the day after Thanksgiving. Sometimes there were not enough chairs and tables and people had to sit on the floor. Amazing.

This year I'm going to continue this tradition (not the sitting on the floor part). I'll be splitting time between the main reading room (MRR) in the Jefferson and the computer center adjacent to it. I encourage students to make it a research and writing day. The library opens at 8:30, but I'll get there in the late morning. Anyone still there at 5 when the library closes is welcome to join me for a glass of Pepsi or beer or wine at a Pennsylvania Avenue drinking establishment.
