Unseen Hands

I'm sure everybody already knows about this wonderful online exhibition from Princeton University Libraries: Unseen Hands. Maybe we can find something here for our GPO broadside(s)? Does everyone know the famous Beatrice Warde "This is a printing office..." quotation? Maybe that would fit the project. See her entry in "Unseen Hands." She actually has a GPO connection.

This Saturday, studio 110, starting at 10 (coffee & donuts) and continuing into the afternoon. Come for as much or as little as you please. The discussion and designing will take place first, then we'll move on to the printing around noon.

  1. “This is a Printing Office:
    Crossroads of civilization
    Refuge of all the arts
    Against the ravages of time
    Armory of the fearless truth
    Against whispering rumor
    Incessant trumpet of trade
From the place words may fly abroad
Not to perish on waves of sound
Not to vary with the writer’s hand
But fixed in time having been verified in proof
Friend you stand on the sacred ground
    This is a Printing Office.”
    — Beatrice Warde (1900-1969)
