Moveable Type!

What an amazing story. Nicole Howard's account is extremely spare, but it does cover most of the essentials. I'm currently reading Andrew Pettegree's The Book in the Renaissance (Yale UP, 2010). I really appreciate the detail that Petteegree brings to his writing. It also has the magical combination of scholarly rigor and "readability". To the left is Mr. Pettegree, in a pose somewhat similar to the man depicted on the cover of his book.


Today in class we'll be discussing the period in Western Europe from around 1440 through 1500, widely called the "Incunable" age of print.
