The US Congress Ends Its Shut-Down

The shut-down affected our access to three institutions: The LC, the NGA, and the Smithsonian. Thankfully, this turned out to be more of a two week inconvenience than an outright impediment. I would like to take this opportunity to personally reprimand Sen. Cruz and Rep. Boehner for their amazing and unprecedented attempt to stop young scholars of print culture history. These young scholars cannot be stopped.

The Library of Congress (its buildings, collections, web sites, resources) will be open by the time you read this message. You are free to research.

The National Gallery of Art will be open, so we can go forward with the "Book in Art" assignment.

Our class visit on November 14 will be to the Smithsonian Libraries (definitely the Cullman, maybe the Dibner, too).
