William S. Peterson's "The Kelmscott Press" (1991)

Much to my surprise, I found the definitive study of Morris's work as a printer The Kelmscott Press in full-view on GoogleBooks. I imagine that the University of California Press has a side-deal of some sort with Google.

In any case, no scholar has contributed more to our understanding of the Kelmscott Press than Bill Peterson. This beautifully written and designed book will give any reader a nuanced picture of late Victorian publishing and the rise of the private presses. Highly recommended.

  1. Right on, Casey! This is a must whenever I teach Chaucer or late-nineteenth century.
