Michelle Wilson, September 19 in NYC

Lynn Sures wanted me to pass on this notice. If you're up in New York tomorrow, check out this performance event. 548 W. 22nd is in the former Dia building in Chelsea and is surrounded by dozens of contemporary galleries.

MODERN DAY SCAPEGOAT SERVICES, a performative installation by Michelle Wilson, takes place September 19, 3-6 PM, at Artbook @ X Initiative, 548 West 22nd Street, as part of Fritz Haeg's Dome Colony project. Wilson transforms and re-imagines the ancient notion of the scapegoat---in which a goat was imbued with people's sins and sent away into the wilderness to perish and vanquish those sins, through an interactive combination of printed matter, bookbinding, and ludicrous characterization. Visitors to the Artbook Dome will have the opportunity to shed their many sinful burdens by writing them down on special pages, which Wilson will bind into an ever-growing Book of Iniquity. Wilson will later carry this book---an analogue for the scapegoat---into an undisclosed location in the wilderness, where it will decompose.
