Looking Back, Looking Forward

Today marks our final seminar meeting. Congratulations to all of us, we've made it. I write this in full knowledge that some of you will be putting the finishing touches on your seminar papers right up to 3:15 this afternoon. When I was in graduate school I frequently worked right up to deadline. It kept my ideas fresh and spontaneous rather than wooden and over-thought (or so I told myself).

Today, of course, we'll have the discussion that we've managed to keep on hold all semester. What are the challenges/threats/opportunities that the transition from the corporeal (material) book to the "ethereal" (digital) book set in motion? We are living in the middle of this transition, so it's difficult to see the contours of these ever-shifting changes.

You'll also hear my "Final Thoughts," and fill out course evaluations. I'd like to finish early and invite everyone (able and willing) to a toast at France for a semester successfully completed.
